minimal boot environment

Hi Everyone,

How to create a boot environment which can serve as minimal and be used for troubleshooting in case the current kernel is not booting for some reason ? This environment should provide minimal commands like xfs_repair, grub-xxxx, mount etc...

This question pertains to CentOS 7.

I do not want to use live cd for the same.

There already is a rescue kernel and a GRUB menu item to boot into rescue mode.

Yes and it still uses same partition as root (/) which the non rescue mode kernel ceases to boot. Idea is to use an alternate boot device since the non rescue mode kernel cannot be booted to.

No live CD but can it be a USB flash drive? Otherwise you will need to add limitations as to your working environment.

CentOS does have a min installation image and you can install it to a bootable flash drive. You can add utilities as desired.

Is your boot folder on another partition?
