Linux Hostname resolution, etc...

I am going to be building a Linux Image, to replace our mainframe terminals.

and this will be the "foothold" for getting Linux desktops in my enterprise.

we Use DHCP for all PC's, and almost ALL machines are either NT 4 workstation or windows 2000. we have both an AD and an NT domain.

what is the cleanest way to intergrate these new machines, and have hostname resolution?

I know you could use DNS? and maybe samba also? be I have a very Large enterprise. just for the mainframe terminal replacement project its a few hundred machines . as most others have been replaced by PC's already

i would also like to have this be scalable, to as many as 4000 machines.

any Ideas?

seems to be it, allow DHCP to update DNS for hostname resolution.
