linux domain

I am expirementing with setting up my first domain with the Primary Domain Controller as a Fedora Core 5 installation.

I have configured samba to allow for domain logins, including the computer accounts for a Windows Xp box. The domain is running fairly well, but the fact that I am unable to connect to any printer with the domain client machines whether the printer is hosted on the domain, or on a seperate computer. I get the following error on the Windows client when I try to connect to a printer hosted by either the Linux domain controller, a windows standalone, or a basic network printer:

A policy is in effect on your computer that is preventing you from connecting to the print queue. Please contact your system administrator.

Note that this error goes away if I do not logon to the domain, but rather logon to the local computer.
Also, note that it is independent of the user logining in. (ie. it happens with root too)

thanks in advance

This doesn't look like a Linux problem (then the thread should be in /General). Maybe check this.

I do beleive you are somewhat right. It appears that the user did not have enough rights to add a printer on the local machine. However, you are wrong that this isn't Linux related. Two more questions come out of this. As I mentioned, I want a fully functional domain. Is it possible that I can

a) control the users rights over the domain (ie. by adding the user to a group --- windows does this by adding the Domain Admins group to the Local Administrators group --- can I create a group on the Linux domain controller and add that group to a Print Operators group on the windows machine autimatically)

b) host the correct windows printer driver on the linux machine so when adding a printer on the windows machine, I don't get the error stating the Linux machine doesn't have the right driver installed? (ie.. add windows driver support to cups)

OK, I solved problem a)

I accomplished this by switching distributions to make it easier. I used to be using Fedora Core 5, but now I am using SME Linux which is a domain server distribution. It has no GUI, but uses a secure web interface for administration. To allow windows users to add printers, all I had to do was to create the user, and add him/her to a group that mapped to the windows "domain admins" group. This gives them administrative privileges on their local machine which they are logged into. Only the admin and root accounts have full control on the server. I know that this is probably possible in Fedora too, but this was just so much easier Now I just need to figure out how to host the windows driver for the printer on the linux box.

Hi meofcourse,
I am trying to make Fedora Core 4 Linux as domain controller server, which currently we are using windows 2003 server and to remain the clients to windows xp only. I had gone through many articles and finally I configured my samba server and even in clients systems I am able to change the domain name to linux domain and when its asking for username and passwd i am giving root and password and its accepting, But the problem is when I restart my system (client) and giving username and password as same that I had given when I am changing the domain name its giving error ...that server cant found....Can anyone just help me how to do this... If possible anyone can send any good articles or configuration file etc...
With Regards,

tek_adm.
