hi all,

i start to update my kernal from redhat network put after all the update the system wonts to reboot but after the repooting i have a error message kernal panic my machine is dell desktob

plz help me

Hmmmm........ when you say the new 2.6.9-42 kernel do you mean the this or do you mean the 2.6.9-42.0.2.EL kerenl and if this is an smp kernel or not, this is important.

If the smp kernel then try the non-smp kernel of the same version number. The older 2.6.9-5 kernel sould still be inplace so boot with this one and let us know.

You may want to try downloading the 2.6.9-42-0.2.EL kernel source and build it yourself.

HI Lenard,

I' HAVE THE OLD KERNAL AND IT'S RUNNING NO PROBLEM, BUT I WONT TO UPGRADE MY KERNAL TO INSTALL SOME ORACLE PRODUCT, MY NEW KERNAL IS
EL-SMP KERNAL.

I WONT TO UPDATE MY KERNAL, or remove the updated kernal , when the machine rebooted i have 4 kernals i wont to delete 3 of them how?? and i wont to know are the updates install or not on the old kernal??

Removing unwated kernels is not hard, first get the list of them;

rpm -qa 'kernel*'

From this output carefully remove the ones you do not want;

rpm -e kernel-<version_number_here>

Repeat until done.
