Installing a new distro on a spare disk from an old linux bean
Big hi,
This is my first post : A bit of background about me : Linux Server 10+ years : Linux Desktop 1 week ! I'm a convert after so many years. Now to the question which I wonder if anyone could offer suggestive solutions to ? Q - I have an old machine in a data center Redhat 6 or something :) and I want to slap ubuntu server on there. My plan is to dump a file structure to disk2 build a kernel if need be and get lilo (with a dont save option so I can get the old machine back via a powercyle)to to mount the new filesystem Hmmmm what do u guys think (and dont say I'm whacky) ? |
Um....
Wouldn't just be easier to run a cron job to back up all the data and do a clean install? That is what I would do. |
