idmapping owner/group on SMB share from multiprotocol filer.

Hi,
I'm trying to do a minimal client side configuration on a fleet of Ubuntu laptops that are NOT joined to the AD.
(many of the laptops lacks a proper hostname and the same name are most certainly used on many computers)

The AD is Win2016 and the users have all posix-attibutes populated. It also responds to LDAP queries.

This is only an interim solution until we are properly set up with a more standardised client.

Anyway ...
By using mount.cifs I can mount the share using by password or by kerberos ticket. Permissions are correctly enforced by the filer but the ownership and group-belonging of the files are always from the user who performed the mount.

Is there a way to solve this by using some cunning LDAP or AD setup with NSS and/or Winbind or sssd, so that the proper owner and group are shown?

This desired setup is only needed for idmapping and not for authentication.

Wow, Linux and Mac beat the Win client. That has to be a first.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. Unfortunately, its 64-bit only for now.
