How to update my RHEL AS 3.0 kernel?

Friends,

We have HP ML370 Server. which is having RHEL AS 3.0 and Oracle 9i database server.
The current Kernel version of RHEL is "2.4.21-4.EL"
What i need is....
Can i keep the same kernel or i have to update my kernel version?
If i update my kernel what are the precautionaries i have to take?
Also, will it affect the oracle 9i database?
I have never done this kernel update before.
Also, I am new to the linux environment.Just learning day by day.
So, please advice me and point me the step by step instrucations to update the kernel.

Please treat this as urgent.

Yes you can update the kernel and keep your current kernel please read the manual on how to do this, all the manuals can be found here;

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...RHEL-3-Manual/

If by hand the command after downloading the kernel rpm package is (as root);
