santhosh tr, you are having trouble getting a direct answer to your questions. This is frustrating for newbies, however there is good reason for this. Check out the LQ guidelines more carefully and read the advise in the "advise" link in my signiture.
Hint: google "RHEL mp3 player" |
I'll throw you a bone, even though I shouldn't -- but if it wasn't for LQ I'd have never been able to migrate 5 machines to linux in a matter of weeks...
Short answer = -------------- yum install videolan-client it's not anyone's favorite media player (nor is it mine) but it always works, and you can't argue with something that works. |
RHEL dosn't use YUM. You're speaking from fedora experience. RHEL uses up2date ... and the official packages do not support proprietary formats.
A simple google will supply the correct answers. There are so many possibilities, one will surely fit requirements. But - continuing to push the Open Source agenda - convert to ogg. Seriously. (Convert all your gifs to png while you're at it). programs: mp32ogg (converts mp3 to ogg/vorbis format) ffmpeg2theora (converts mp4 etc video to ogg/theora) gif2png (converts gif images to png format) links: http://www.vorbis.com/ http://directory.fsf.org/all/mp32ogg.html http://www.theora.org/ http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/ |
BMP Player
I am not a pro at linux but I hav recently faced the same problem with RHEL 5.....finding an mp3 player
I found that BMP Player built upon the XMMS player is a pretty good one.It also did not give much problem related to installation if the instructions of INSTALL file are properly followed....which are as simple as going to the folder in which the tar.gz is extracted & then cd ./bmp-0.9.7.1 ./configure make make install This is all is needed to be done. the link is : http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Multi...yer-2256.shtml But,although I am not quite sure, there is a catch.Almost all the files from the installation CD should be installed(thats wat I had done and 1 of my frnds hadn't & suffered frm Problems). So,try to look in this direction if there is any problem. Regards, Abhishek |
santhosh tr: How did you get on?
