Aren't there instructions with the CD? I installed 8i on RH 7 and it had a set of instructions with it. I don't know if the installer has changed at all, but when I set it up it required Java and X had to be running, which was really stupid because all it did was run a bunch of shell scripts *sigh*.

well chort please tell me which cd would the instruction be in cause i was given a server with a preloaded Red Hat 3.0 AS, and disk 1,disk2,disk 3 directories created well i there is some java problems and i am a little bit frustrated.............i would be thankful if you could help me.

I'm afraid "some Java problems" is terribly vague. I wouldn't know where to begin. Basically you need a sufficient JVM installed for the Oracle installer to run (I know, it's extremely stupid... why require Java just to run some shell scripts???). Usually Java is not installed by default because of crazy Sun Microsystems licenses. You'll have to download that and install it if it doesn't already exist.

How did you get a server and Oracle CDs with no documentation? If someone purchased Oracle, they should definitely have the documentation. There are also some README type files on the CD if I remember correctly. They might be called INSTALL or INSTALLING or something like that... basically just text files. Can't you go back to whomever gave you the Oracle disks and ask them for the documentation?

Have you seen http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/...nRedHatAS3.php ?

There are a couple patches you have to install to get the installer running and a couple more patches to get AIO running. The notes under ML "Certify & Availability" section guide you through the "gotcha's".
