Help Me plz - fsck problem, RHEL4 not booting

Hi,
Today i did a mistake, without putting the system into single user mode, i typed the fsck command.
While it is in process,( i think), i was scared about and pressed the reboot button. After that only grub command is appearing and not able to login to my linux partition.
Plz help me, all my data (my life) is in that system.
Now i am running fsck from rescue mode, but it is running from last 3 hours. i dont know what will happen.
If the system crashes, then is there any way to copy all my data or the data will also be lost?
Please reply me quickly.
Thanks in advance.

first of all don't panic. AFAIK the fsck will complain only if tried to run on a mounted drive, it doesn't cares if its a single user or multi-user mode. you can re-run grub and see if that gets you to the login prompt.
3 hours seems to be a long time. what is the partition size? anyway i don't think its that serious. Linux machines are known for their stability and what you told above should not cause Linux to break. If you are stuck come here again and i am sure LQ people here will help you with their expert advice.
