gpt and software mirroring on ia64

I am working with an ia64 system running RHEL 3 and we think we have just uncovered a huge issue. We are software mirroring a root/boot drive. From what I understand so far, the mirror drive will not boot.
Is there a way to make the supposed mirror drive bootable, even if it requires manual intervention as /boot/efi may change from time to time? Thank you in advance for your reply.
