GFS installation RHEL4u4

Good day,

perhaps someone could point me in the right direction: I have just installed RHEL4 update 4 on a Dell PowerEdge 1855 Blade server. I have installed the gfs-6.1.6-1.i386.rpm and the GFS-kernel-smp-2.6.9-58.0.i686.rpm downloaded from the RedHat Network. I see the following entries in /var/log/messages:

kernel: gfs: Unknown symbol kcl_get_node_by_nodeid
modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting gfs (/lib/modules/2.6.9-42.ELsmp/kernel/fs/gfs/gfs.ko): Unknown symbol in module or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

the net result is that I cannot mount a GFS file system:
mount: fs type gfs not supported by kernel

uname -r -> 2.6.9-42ELsmp

I would appreciate any help anyone could provide me,

The GFS module which you're trying to install on RHEL4 U4 may not be compatible with your current running kernel. Please make ensure that your running kernel matches 2.6.9-58.0 version. If not, try to upgrade your kernel as specified and then do the GFS installation.

Hi Rajesh,

Thanks for the advice. I have considered that: I initially d/loaded the GFS iso off the RH Network. File: rhel-4-u4-rhgfs-i386-disc1.iso which surprisingly contained the files mentioned above. When I saw that the kernel versions were incorrect, I d/loaded the GFS-kernel-smp-2.6.9-42.1.i686.rpm which was the closest I could find to the RHEL4u4 kernel. Once again, surprisingly this rpm has a dependency for 2.6.9-22.EL. I WILL attempt to update my kernel, although at this stage I have moved forward my evaluations onto OCFS2, because I want to set up an Oracle RAC implementation at the end of the day anyway. Will get back to GFS though at some stage. If anyone has solved the problem outlined previously please submit your comments here,
