If you encounter a server crash, please report the problem by filing a bug
report in the XFree86.org bugzilla at and/or Red Hat
bugzilla at When filing your report, it
is very important that you explain your problem in as much detail as possible,
and include a complete description on how to reproduce the problem. After
submitting the bug report, attach the following files as uncompressed
individual file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment feature:
- X server log file: /var/log/XFree86.0.log
- X server config file: /etc/X11/XF86Config
- Kernel log file: /var/log/messages

Try logging in in text mode as root, then run this:
Code:

X -configure
As you can see it starts (or tries to start) a screen with a fully automatic configuration specifically for your card. After it has finnished, test it using the suggested method (see text on-screen after running command) ie:
Code:

X -config=/root/xorg.conf.new
or similar (can't remember exactly what it says!). Kill the newly started screen with "ctrl+alt+backspace". If all seems ok, copy the new config to /etc/X11 directory as "xorg.conf" then start tweaking it for your own preferences, ie. resolution, refresh rate, mouse and keyboard settings etc.

Tuttly,
I have tried with redhat-config-xfree86,
#redhat-config-Xfree86 I'm able to found something going around in the background, but not able to identify visually. After sometime i'm getting the following error messages.

OUT OF FREQUENCY
HF=23.9 KHZ
VF=38.0 HZ
OPERATING FREQUENCY
HF=30-54.KHZ
VF= 50-120KHZ

I have tried changing the refresh rate and resoluation, but no hope, any help here?

Tuttle 05-06-2005 08:17 AM

I see you are using Xfree86, not Xorg am I right? If so, I haven't been using xf86 for ages now and can't remember how to do the thing I suggested, sorry.
I think you need to find out the vertical and horizontal sync range details of your monitor. Once you have the relevant info, try manually putting the details into your /etc/X11/Xfree86.conf (again, can't remember exact names!) under the "Monitor" section like this:
Code:

Section "Monitor"
...
...
...
...
        HorizSync      27 - 115
        VertRefresh    80 - 160
        Option          "DPMS"
EndSection

or similar.
Please post the contents of your monitor and device section if what I say seems wrong to you.

Pls find my Xfree86 config fille.

It seems your horizontal sync range is too low for the graphics card. Try:
Code:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier  "Monitor0"
        VendorName  "Monitor Vendor"
        ModelName    "DDCPROBED"
        DisplaySize  280        210
        HorizSync    20.0 - 60.0
        VertRefresh  35.0 - 105.0
        Option            "dpms"
EndSection

If that doesn't work, try different values, be careful as damage can result if the monitor is unable to cope (although I have never caused damage myself by doing this). Also, look into what "DisplaySize" does as I am not familiar with that. Your modes are limited too. Try this:
Code:

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device    "Videocard0"
        Monitor    "Monitor0"
        DefaultDepth    24
        SubSection "Display"
                Depth    24
                Modes    "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        EndSubSection
EndSection

assuming the horizontal sync thing gets you running first, and only if your monitor supports it.
