error starting GNOME setting Daemon

Hi friends ,
This is the error message i m getting when i m pressing my down arrow key ............

" There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly.

The Settings Daemon restarted too many times.

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in."

I have search all other forum , but did not get any solution .

Hi. When you see the login manager, do CTRL-ALT-F1 and login to the terminal. After that run the commands below
Code:
mv .gnome .gnome.backup
mv .gnome2 .gnome2.backup
mv .gconf .gconf.backup
mv .gconfd .gconfd.backup
After that do CTRL-ALT-F7 and login. Does that help?

Glad you got it working. Don't worry about the contribution because it optional.

Well, I have a Lenny box that only one user (the main one) gets the daemon error. I made another user, and it comes up fine..
This is using Exceed with XDMP chooser. Would really like to know which file is hosed. I did as user reddaz suggested and most
times it will come up ok now. Should note, that on the local machine, the desktop came up fine.

Joe
