I am happy that I found such helping association in form of linuxquestion members.

My problem is, I m not able to find DVD writer device in device list by ' ls-l /dev ' command. Ihad no probs with RHEL 4.0, DVD writer was automatically mounted. I have pasted output of device files list bellow. WOuld u pplease tell me what should be the entry in /etc/fstab as thwere is no entry for DVD device.

Wat happens when you put a blank disk in the drive?
What is written in /etc/fstab?

Have you tried looking in the syslog

dmesg | grep dvd

Am also having the same problem, except am having CentOS release 4.6 (Final).
I can read/write CD's , but DVD's are neither readable nor writable.

my /etc/fstab shows the drive as
Any idea????
No output for

But,grep -i dvd shows the following

Thanks for reply, and ZAMO you too . If I put cd/dvd in drive there is no response but if I connect usp pen drive its automatically mounted. . In Erilier installation of RHEL 5.0 it was working fine, but this time I am not able to mount DVD, once more I installed RHEL 5.0. One thing I want to emphesize that RHEL 5.0 is multiboot with Winxp & Vista of Microsoft. I have pasted output of 'ls -l /dev ' inspecting this output, can you tell me which is the devicefile for DVD or its not detected by kernel only?? the DVD drive is working fine with WIN XP & Vista. My /etc/fstab is as follows
