Difference between CENTOS 5.2 and RHEL 5.2

Does anyone know the difference between CENTOS 5.2 and RHEL 5.2? I'm trying to determine which one to use.

Thanks

The support and RHN. That more or a less covers it. They're built off the same code, it's a clone with the proprietary graphics and such removed.

With Red Hat, you have someone to call and yell at if they system breaks. With CentOS you have to hope someone in a forum can help you.

the difference is only online support for(RHN) rhel5 which is not present in centos, another one is the logo.

CENTOS-Community Enterprise Operating System is the rebuild developed by the group at www.centos.org, developers of centos rebuild n revised all the source codes and remove the redhat trademarks.

Ans:

Hi,

* CentOS Linux is based on the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

* Advantages of Centos is user community, quickly rebuilt, tested, and QA'ed errata packages.

* CentOS does not provides the RHN style support. It depends upon community mailing lists, forums and 3rd party sites to provide support.

* If you need access to RHN or support service go for Redhat otherwise CentOS will help you.

Quote from centos.org. Main purpose is....

CentOS exists to provide a free enterprise class computing platform to anyone who wishes to use it......CentOS is designed for people who need an enterprise class OS without the cost or support of the prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor.
