Custom Linux build running Marimba Tuner software
 

Ok. I am posting this message in hopes that *someone* out there will have purchased this software and actually has it up and running in a production environment...

Here is the build:

Hardware: (recommended by Marimba sales person for running the sw on Linux) Celestix 1U server appliance, with a custom built kernel vs. 2.4.21-4.0.1.EL that Celestix has named "Cosmos 3.0" There is no GUI installed.

Software: besides the Celestix OS referenced above, this appliance is running Marimba's Tuner software for Linux. Latest version from Marimba.

Background:

This is the only Linux based peice of a huge pie of an Enterprise solution. The rest of this software runs on Windoze machines. This is the first test box running the Linux version we have received. The Windoze versions of this same software work and are running in production. We are moving to this Linux solution for obvious reasons, it is a less expensive offering. According to Marimba it works with this build from Celestix and meets all the Linux package requirements for the Marimba software to run, which I have double checked and are indeed on there. The Celestix OS is very very stripped down, there are not even any man pages.

Problem:

Unable to connect to this Linux Tuner from the test Master Console/Transmitter (Windoze).

Marimba Tuner software installs fine on the Linux box. Default tcp listening port of 7717 is indeed listening. The tuner.log file shows two errors. One being that the java functionality for X11 errors out, which is not an issue since there is no need for a GUI. The second error is that there is not a valid licensing file, to which Marimba support has expressed this is not a relevant issue since the software will function properly irregardless of the license file.

I have worked endlessly with Marimba support. We have created several new Linux Tuner/Repeater installation packages from the Master Console. We have updated the licensing files on the Master Console. I have re-formatted the Celestix box countless times, since there is not an uninstaller for the Marimba software. We receive the same errors in the tuner.log. We have proven that the tuner is indeed running on the Linux box, there is just no way to connect from the Master Transmitter to it. You can ping the Linux box all day long, there are no network issues involved.

Please help if you have any experience with Marimba and Linux!

Update:

This particular issue has been fixed, of course a simple networking issue. There were some proxy settings set up on the Master Transmitter in our test environment that were keeping the Repeater from communicating. *blush* If I had used N-Map, I would have figured this out long ago... *sigh*

I will leave this post up, in case there is anyone that knows about this software, I could use any information that is available.
