CRC error/Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block
Hi, Good Day!
I am currently evaluating RHEL 4, Update 4 on Intel 64bit system.
My server has the following specifications:
Intel Core2 E6400/2.13GHz
Intel D946GZIS Motherboard
2GB RAM
160GB IDE HDD
I used the default options during installation. I also used the default
partitions created by 'autopartioning'.
I have successfully installed RHEL4, however, after rebooting I get this:
=======================================================
Booting 'Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES (2.6.9-42.ELsmp)'
kernel direct mapping tables upto 10100000000 @ 8000-d000

initrd /initrd-2.6.9-42.ELsmp.img

.
Decompressing Linux...done.
Booting the kernel.

Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

I am new with Red Hat and would really like to learn. I have searched the
knowledgebase and other forums, but could not find any solution. Can you
assist me and tell me what I did wrong? or what I should do? I would
appreciate any help that you can give me.
Many thanks,
Erick
