Can OpenOfficeBase 2.0 Replace MsAccess?

hi all,

i.ve been looking at the beta for open office 2.0, and i'm going to give it a shot to try to replace my msaccess database.
so i'd like to here from you guys if you think open office made a fullgrown replacement option for the last thing that keeps me running windows in the office.

If you can get by with the Office 2000 version of M$ Acce$$, you can run Office 2000 under wine - and it runs quite well.

I have used OO Base (2.0 beta) in conjunction with MySQL and i have also used OO Base as a stand alone database - like access. The code IMHO is still a little buggy for Base. Also, which should be a plus for you, is the development team has tried to make it as close to access is legally possible. It's basically an access clone. I think it works well and you should seriously consider it. At worst, if the situation will allow, use Base with Mysql or PostgreSQL.

Edit** Also, if you can use a SQL database, i use Rekall as a front end. That looks A LOT like access.

The reason why it was created is because people complained of a lack of an MS Access like application in Linux, so I would assume that it would function as much as possible like access. As for bugs, its still beta software, so probably the finished version will be a lot more polished and useable.

What I don't get is the fact that OOo Base can import Access data under the Windows version, but the Linux version doesn't have the option. I, too, have an Access database that I use extensively to track my student's grades at the college I teach. I have quite a bit of time invested in the development of that database. I don't like the idea of having to redesign it under Linux. I will if I can get around to teaching myself Python (for Rekall) or whatever the scripting language in the OOo Base is (can't remember, off hand). However, if there's a way to import my forms and VB code, that would be a huge time saver.

I understand there's a MDB project out there that's trying to do just that.
