Activating adsl modem in RHEL5

I have installed RHEL5 enterprise edition in my desktop.Everything works fine but my adsl modem (SmartAX MT882) cannot be activated . The modem is installed via USB connectivity. The modem is recognised by Linux as Globe Span Virata SmartAX MT882 and installed in eth0.Whenever I am trying to activate the modem after some time it is showing "Can't Activate the modem" and the error message is "/sbin/adsl-start:line 214:2662 Terminated $CONNECT"$@">/dev/null2>&1".I have also installed the RP-PPPOE dialer given by the ISP (BSNL).But when I am starting it after some time it is showing "Error starting connection /usr/sbin/adsl-start:line 216:2858 Terminated$CONNECT"$@">/dev/null2>&1.
Pl. help me out
