Using a BB Black for a caching proxy

I was thinking about running a BB black as a caching proxy for the LAN. I have been reading posts on the BB black group. One thing concerns me about power supply and sensitivity of the device to power failures. I don't want to purchase an additional power supply which seems to be a requirement now to prevent the BB black from bricking.

There is a post about this on the list. The new bb blacks come with a warning sticker on the board. If you pull the plug you can damage the board. I am surprised that it now requires a battery backup power so that it can shutdown properly in the right sequence.

Any other bb black users here? Did you get the original or a copy? What battery backup are you using? Or if not what are you doing about this power issue? Maybe bb black people are just being cautious???

I've had one original BB Black, I had it for about 5 minutes before a puff of black smoke ended it. If I ever get another one I'd look at something like this, or this

The requirement of having to have a battery backup or UPS is steering me away from this BB. It is interesting that something as severe as destroying the device simply by pulling power has gone mostly unnoticed.
