TM1637 and voltage level shifter

I use TM1637 based 4 digit 7 segment LED display connected to nodeMCU (8266 4M device). But it after reboot display values correctly but after several minutes the display is garbage. nodeMCU works with 3,3V IN/OUT logic. TM1637 - as doku stands, should also work with 3,3V. But other sources stands that 5V is necessary. Should I use voltage level shifter from 3,3 to 5V?

Go to datasheets.

That's really a design issue; many 3.3V devices can take 5V I/O. Some can't and you need to check. Unless you're starting with a given supply, I'd use 5V and put a 3.3 step down regulator. If you have low 5V demand (e.g. one/two devices) and more current on the 3.3V, then a level shifter would work. I ended up with 5V, 3.3V & 2.5V regulators once, because I was specifying for speed & availability. The 2.5V ran 74AUC logic devices.
