SLIP/PPP through the one and only UART
I'm trying to setup a SLIP connection through the development the only UART on the ARM development board.
I'm using slattach in order to setup the link to Windows. However I need to do further configuration like setup the routing to the SLIP network connection.
Problem is that the UART is setup for terminal use and I want to the terminal to give up the UART but still running, continuing setting up the SLIP connection.
Basically I try to setup like this in a small script.
slattach -h /dev/ttyAMA0 38400 &
route add -host 192.168.0.200 dev sl0
This of course fails since ttyAMA0 is used for the terminal. This is mostly for testing purposes. Later on I need Linux not to book up ttyAMA0 with the terminal and start network over serial directly.
I've read that PPP is now days preferred instead of SLIP, however the configuration options are much more complicated and many of them modem and ISP oriented. What I need is only to set up just like in the SLIP case a serial network connection without any authorization and passwords. Would you have any idea how to setup such connection?
Do you have any idea how to solve this in a better way in general?
