raspbian: newbie questions. FAT16 on the SD and error on boot

hello,

1. I installed raspbian and see now on the SD card a fat16 partition (a fat32 was on the whole SD card before the ionstallation).
Is it not a bit curious? raspbian is creating a fat16 during installation?

2. the dmesg of my raspberry indicate:
..
[ 29.101048] FAT-fs (mmcblk0p1): Volume was not properly unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck.
..
How to delete that message?

I'd say redownload (incase corrupt plus it's small) wipe the SD so no partitions (using Disk Utility) then use the dd command from here: http://elinux.org/RPi_Easy_SD_Card_Setup starting at the middle of the page or so: "Using system tools (mostly graphical interface,)" best wishes and have fun. :)

1. nothing to do. a FAT16 is part of the system.
2. ok. It comes up when the shutdown "sudo shutdown -h 0" was not done before the power is switched off.
A new "dd" make a new install and it is gone.
In the main time, it seems this error message is not disturbing the system
