File size capped at 557312 on "ls"

Help!

I have a file of size 690K which causes a new embedded linux build to fail on a boot and I get an inflate error. I also note when doing "ls" on a prior linux that a lot of files have a file size of 557312 displayed. Is there a link here in that file sizes are being capped?

Thanks.

Certainly no limit that I'm aware of.

I'm sure you've checked your RAM and media size.

557312 = 256 * 2177. I honestly don't believe any of those three numbers are significant.

What's target platform and configured hardware? What's the specific kernel you're trying to build? What specific error message are you getting? Are you sure the kernel is viable, or the transfer to your target platform was successful?

The problem was due to the gunzip which inflates the kernel being passed a length parameter which was hardcoded and was now too small. So the gunzip stopped before the kernel was fully decompressed.

Bumping it up a megabyte or two solved the problem.
