Buffalo LinkStation HD-H160LAN, some questions before trying to install linux

Hi to all,

this post isn't about any trouble I've found (yet) but about some questions about the viability of installing linux in a Buffalo LinkStation HD-H160LAN. I read in a non-related linux forum some people has some device called Kurobox running with linux and connected in almost any imaginable way with other devices. This Kurobox could run some programs 24/7 with a noticeable save compared to having a computer running the same time for the same purposes.

I tried to buy a Kurobox, but I could find no one, so after some google-ing I found this Buffalo boxes were pretty similar and I bought one at eBay: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_U8B7z9-s0K...HD-H160LAN.jpg

Before I touch anything, I would like to ask if it is technically possible to make some linux distro (I am most familiar with Debian) run in this box, if once the linux is working you can make programs run in it (from torrent and mule clients, FTP or web servers...) and first of all it a total backup of the device can be done in case we have to go back and restore the original data.

This is the info about my Linkstation from its web interface: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_U8B7z9-s0K...enance.sys.jpg

Thank you very much to anyone for his attention and advice.
