Zorin os 9 crashes after this apt-get dist-upgrade -f
Hello,
I have installed Zorin os 9 twice now
Both times the install crashed after running the upgrade
First time it wouldn't boot at all
Second time it boots but the GUI is only partly there
I documented all the terminal errors and ran the suggested
band-aid - so at least the program still works but without the GUI
it kinda hard to do anything :-(
Who would like to tackle this with me ?
What would you like to know ?
Begs the question "should I have run the upgrade ?"
well I saw it on at least two Zorin forums penned
by a Senior forum member. So he should know
what to do ? anyway this is the result...
Best Regards, ozbod1
PS this all started with USB headset not being recognised by Zorin os 9
(a headset with a USB sound card built into the cord)
Just a nuisance fiddly thing really
But I do like my USB headset
Anyway, from 2014 forums this update && upgrade was suggested as a fix
Now after reading about distro-upgrades versus upgrade seems not a
good idea (over 300MB of download)
That the distro still works at all is probably a testament to it's strength
I do like Zorin and intend to use it extensively...cheers

Nice reply Ztcoracat
Well the main issue was that Zorin os 9 seems to have a bug in the USB functionality
So I got around that by going right back to Zorin os 6 which works perfectly in that regard
As for applying that "apt-get dist-upgrade -f" I don't know what is to be achieved ?
apart from heartache and pain :-( So I simply avoid that
Just "upgrade" works fine with no "system broken" messages
The GUI is lovely...the graphics control switches nicely between monitors
I did have a problem with the "Play on Linux" feature disappearing after an update
but that doesn't bother me (just yet)
Thanks for your excellent reply Z
But I still cannot use an os (even with a GUI) with limited USB function
But that's just me.....
~Bye

You're Welcome-
I know you like Zorin but it may be time to try other distro's.
