X Windows is a black screen

I installed Red Hat 7.2. I'm trying to go to the x windows typing 'startx' but it appears a black screen. As far as i know, it's a video configuration problem. But I configure everything correctly. I have a Compaq Presario MV500 monitor. I read that the vertical refresh rate is 50-90 and the horizontal sync rate is 31.5-54. I have the Nvidia GeForce2 Integrated GPU video card, that comes with the Asus motherboard. That is how I configured it but I still see a black screen, any help?

thanks,
Deb

Thanks! I downloaded and installed the kernel and GLX of Nvidia and now it works. But...
when I login with a text terminal, and I type "exec gnome-session" it logs me out, instead of goinf to the Gnome Gui Windows. But when I type 'startx', it appears a GUI screen with three terminals on it, and that's it. Then inside one of the terminals I type "exec gnome-session" and gnome starts.
Do you know how to make the Gnome to start automatically?

thanks agin

winows session

okay im at work and i wont be able to verify this for some time now. but there is a hidden file to edit in your home direcctory i think is .xsession and needs gnome to be added. also if you want to be cheesie you can change the run level to 5 and what ever you login to will make it your defualt. then just change it back to run level 3.

right now i cant be much help but this is what i remember off the top of my head.
