x Problem with Slackware base distro
Hi guys!
I tested many linux distributions (majority were Debian based) and I was always not able to make a slackware base distribution works correctly. I don't know why, but it seems it's always a X problem. I mean, I tried Zenwalk, always have "no screen found". Tried to modify the xorg.conf, no change...no "no screen found" but only a black screen. Tried to copy the xorg from another distribution. Still no change. I tried Vector Linux, a bit better. I can connect once in a while (Need to reboot a couple of times, because it's often a black screen after the Tui mode login). I tried Frugalware, no screen found I'm a bit tired of Distributions based on Debian (Ubuntu, Elive, Parsix...) but always download a distribution that doesn't fonction when it is installed... don't like it too. I always posted on the forum of the distribution for that kind of problems, but the answers are always "xorg not well configured" "try to reconfigure xserver" , etc. So if someone here has an idea about the way to resolve this, I'll be thankfull. I'm not a linux expert, i'm using linux for half a year now, but i'm not a newbee. |
Maybe a better description of the problem? More info?
Post these things:
How did you setup X? With 'xorgconfig' or 'xorgsetup'? More questions to come... |
Oh man, now I feel really stupid!
I had only to explanations to change the xorg.conf : - Do it manually with mousepad /etc/X11/xorg.conf - xorgcfg -textmode These two options never fonctioned for me. Now I read your replie and saw xorgconfig Just tried it and I was able to set everything perfect. I just don't know what to say and I don't understand why nobody told me about this option before. So thanks a lot for the help, your answer had just the information I needed :) Sorry for all this though  |
Nothing to be sorry about. The worst question is the unasked one.
