Why are the fonts so ugly in SuSe for non KDE apps ?

Hello.

In the past month I've been choosing a linux distro to put in my computer.

I've installed SuSe without any problems.

Everything looked great (with the antialised fonts in KDE) in the desktop until ... until I started OpenOffice ... it was ugly very ugly, I started another non kde app (Opera Browser), and it was the same. Some fonts are so distorted (in OpenOffice for example) that is difficult to read them.

Well this does not happen in Debian and RedHat ... so the problem belongs to SuSe.

I have a Geforce 4 Ti, but I cannot install the drivers from nvidia, nor the rpms, nor the srpms, nor the tgz. They install, but when I put device="nvidia" in XFConfig, the x-server hangs (same for module glx).

Can the ugly fonts be a problem of the drivers ?

How can I solve this ?

Thanks.
