Which distro for raw performance?

Im building a linux based performance PC, and I would like to know which distro is best for raw performance. I dont care about security, but it does need to be reasonably stable.

It will be running on same machine u see in my siggy

Any suggestions?

Here you go, asking opinions. How many packages do you want, and for what will you use your "raw performance?"

IMO Debian or Gentoo compiled with nothing from the start, even Debian with no wm - both are pretty lean and mean.

If you want some packages and a pretty GUI desktop-wm such as KDE or Gnome, then go with Slack. Read on the Slack CD1 the file that tells you what packages are included, and then just select what you have to have.

Slack is easier to get a bunch of packages with, that actually run and work well with your distro.

If performace is what you want, you should probably look at source based distros: Source Mage, Onebase, Sorcerer, Lunar, Gentoo... But in the end, the difference between those and a well put together distro like Arch or Slackware is not that great.

I cannot tell the difference in performance between Gentoo (the only source-based distro I've tried) and Arch, and Arch is MUCH easier and faster to install. Distro of the future...

Slackware! It is a clean simple and fast distro. You can run it without installing much or with fullblown KDE/GNOME. You can do wathever you want with it. Slackware is a distro that can be used for any purpose...

another thing, if you want performance... get rid of mdk, it is a great distro, but dead slow!

Debian... I don't like the fact that it doesn't really have a clean structure. And Gentoo well... in most cases compiling everything takes to much time, often it isn't worth the trouble
