I tried Mint13/MATE again and it installed fine.
The problem seemed to be in either DVD-RW erasure or burning after erasure.
Retoasted the DVD and it worked.

It feels quite fine - not too slow or anything.
The only problem is jumpy/irregularly working touchpad (Synaptics).

I think that belongs into "Linux - Laptop and Netbook".
