Post Which Distro 4 Laptops

Okay I love RH & Mandy on my workstation. But I am dissatisfied with the pcmcia modules and how they behave. For instance, if I get my linksys card working it is extremly difficult to swicth to my lucent wireless card. This being so, I have installed freebsd and now I can surf while at work and when i get home no prob. But the desktop enviroment really *!#@. I'd rather get a really kewl arse linux distro that can handle multiple pcmcia. Any 1 able to solve this prob or have suggestions. Highly appreciated

hmmmm... i haven't had a problem getting redhat to work with a regular pcmcia and wireless nic at the same time. but i must confess, my main laptop boxes run slackware. it's a little trickier in slack, but works fine for me now.

i'm not sure what drivers you use for the lucent card, but i use the prism2 modules for my d-link and linksys cards (more info at http://www.linux-wlan0.org). you might wanna try using the linux-wlan support, as it might be better than the built in kernel support.

i generally like running slack 8.0 on my thinkpad and latitude better than redhat. slack's more lightweight and runs quicker. but it's a pain to get configured over redhat (which was installed and ready to go in under an hour).

hope this info helps. :-)

Wow the overwhelming response

Well, out of all the distro's I have have never tried slack. I guess I should. To be more specific of my woes. I went to sourceforge for my pcmcia probs and installed their updates. everything went fine about two days of trying to fig it out. But the difficulty of switching between cards really pieved me. I found I constantly needed a solution. So I turned the freeBSD 4.4 and installed it. At work it picked up the wLAN and at home it stuck to my LAN configurations as well. Nice butt....., a recently old laptop thats not that fast to begin with and KDE blew. I had my connection but my desktop was lacking. Sound, Floppy and CD-ROM all need to be reconfiged. Id rather have some form of linux with all its kewl stuff like editing, email gathering, music listning and maybey some small games to take the brain away once in awhile. Any enough chit chat my main box is screwed up and I need to do some reconfiguring and descions on what and how I want it setup...... Have fun everyone and CHEERS
