That is not a bad quiz! I have a small criticism - it seemed to limit choices to KDE or Gnome, which implies a fairly heavyweight system. Certainly 800MHz is plenty, but I would think those big desktops would struggle with less than 256Mb RAM.
Tried it again, but server seems to have fallen over
Well, it's still in beta. It does have this disclaimer:
Please remember that this is not a scientific test, but a fairly "rough" test, to help aid newcomers in finding a distribution to use. We know there could have been more questions, tailored to more experienced users, but we have picked the ones we found most appropriate for newcomers.
We are planning on expanding this test to more experienced users as well.
Even if you use a heavyweight distro, you don't have to use the default desktop (Gnome, KDE). You can always install XFCE, Fluxbox, Window Manager, IceWM, or some other lighter window manager.
Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux - Distributions and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.
Mod note: the 'which distro' questions is asked constantly, and there's no real answer other than to say 'Try several, choose the one that works best for you'. A useful article from tipmonkies may be helpful reading. Good luck with it -- J.W.
