if u mean kernel version e.g 2.4.26 then i like using 2.6.7 because its the latest and greatest. however if i was running old hardware the i would use 2.4.26.

the 2.5.x kernels are just development kernels i think ....

or if u mean distro then I just love how slackware 10.0 does what i tell it to do with bloated $%^& gui config tools. not to mention its quite fast and lean.

As the other posts have asked, What do you mean 3 makes?
If you are referring to the kernel I have not used the 2.6 kernel yet so I cannot commment
as for what is best for beginners theres probably not much difference.

I heard fedora doesn't support nvidia, which is the current video card I have. I've heard from reviews that mandrake would be the way to go.

By the way, does Suse personal come with all the software that you'll need, being that its only 1 cd at the website?

Started of well with Slackware 1.0; now using RedHat/Fedora, Slackware, FreeDUC (actually my kids use this).

I would suggest Mandrake to any newbie... really userfriendly - most of the time.

I think RedHat 8.0 is the best. Even though I'm using both (Redhat and the Fedora), I like RedHat 8.0 the most.

For Newbie, I'd suggest Fedora Core 1. May be you can try Fedora Core 2 later after 3-4 months.
