what to download
im a total newbie
is there a distribution in only one file which i can download |
Yes. Go to www.linuxiso.org - you download an iso file and, in the process of being burned, it expands into many files and fills the disk.
And welcome to LQ :D |
Before you actually install Linux, you might want to burn something called a live evaluation version. By going to www.linuxiso.org, you will find a button called Knoppix. Click on that, download the ISO, burn it, and put it into your CD drive and restart your computer. It will boot up a working Linux system off of the CD and it won't touch your hard drive. This is the best choice to see if you like Linux.

Try college linux http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=62

or you could even try ZipSlack. Its a version of Slackware that gets installed on a windows partition. It has the same basic functionality of linux, but it's in your windows partition. www.slackware.com for more info

Moderator note: moved to Linux - Distribution as it's the best forum for this thread.
