What operating system to install on rebuilt Desktop

I have rebuilt a desktop for my wife. Her computer requirements are for writing letters ,E mails and storage of files. No games or any fancy hardware installed. Recommendations for an operating system, on a Bootable CD. and where could I download the software?

I'm partial to Fedora ( myself. Lots of new users like Ubuntu ( If you want a live CD, you can't beat Mepis ( IMO.

Welcome to LQ!

Perhaps Debian Etch. Super stable (to the point of being boring ), excellent selection of applications, super stable, user friendly, easy to set up and did I mention stability

Other than that, Fedora or Ubuntu or Suse. I would go with Debian Etch though.
