Question What linux is best?, in general

I posted earlier a post regarding what type of linux is best for old machines, and there i was told that each new version of linux uses the computer more efficiently. i've decided to make an experiment, to install several versions of linux and try see how it works with each version. the question is what does each linux product is best at?

im new to linux in general, and i see a-lot of its version running around.

the SuSe, Kernel, Mandrake, Fedora project and etc..

if you can you please give me a link to a website which contains information about each linux and its speciality, advantages and disadvantages?, help will be much appreciated

Maxim16, welcome to LQ. To learn more about linux, learn to use the search feature for this site. It will probably speed up the information that you are looking for. Also, try google, and you will be surprised how many pages come up pointing back here to LQ

Going to the LQ search page and in the exact phrase field putting in
best distro
gave these results
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...der=descending

not all the results are the answer to your question. But a good percentage are.

EDIT:
Using the search above I found this good thread
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ht=best+distro

Welcome to LQ For old machines either slackware or debian are both quite good - they arenīt user friendly though like mandrake and fedora are.
