What is knoppix doing right?

Please tell me if this belongs in antother forum...

I have a linuxproblem.

System

MSI- K7n2g-ILSR
Seagate Barracuda120MB with S-ATA
Eizo FlexScan L550(in analog mode)
Radeon7000
NEC 2510 DVD
512mb Ram

Which distro is most suitable? I dont need all the things I have in Windows, just an ethernet/internet connection and later maybe a secure server for the things I now work with in windows.

This happens with Fedora C2: Resolution defaults at 640x480
same with Mandrake 10.0, and there seems that theres no solution

Knoppix 3.3: Finds the right resolution and everything works fine. But how to install it?

Debian: Does not detect my harddrive.

Collegelinux: Does not detect my hardrive

Slackware 10.0: does not detect my harddrive.

There must be something that knoppix does right and the others do wrong. I am a newbie so the solution is not obvious as it may be for some of you out there. If you please could share some of your knowledge with me, I will be very grateful for that...

T.S.

You can install knoppix with a HD-install script which is on the CD. For more information please consult http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/HdInstallHowTo

Oh and Knoppix is BTW based on Debian/SID, which is the next generation Debian/GNU Linux...
