What is a good all around distro to dl?
Ok, I'm looking for some help/opinions of what the best distro is for all around use. I wanna be able to do anything on the server side, but also be able to use the linux system as a desktop....suggestions welcome. I have RH7.3 now....just curious if that is up there, or mandrake or another is better. I see a lot of other distros on this board, just curious why they might be better.
Thanks, |
are you aware that this question has probably been asked on this site over a hundred times, second time today...

This is asked all the time btw. Most of the time you will only get opinions. That's the power of Linux though, almost any distro can be a good server and a good desktop OS. It all depends on how you configure yours.
I am going to move this to the distro forum where it is better suited also. |
ok...go ahead and delete it...mod.

Don't get pissed off, I know you've got flamed in the "10 things" thread, but there is nothing against you, at least I am not - oranges to apples don't play with me, so the best distro there is question, hmm. I think it should be only your own opinion, and if you have time, space and bandwidth to get a couple just go over http://www.linuxiso.org and pick whichever appeals to you better. :)
P.S. In this thread you'll get lots of slackware references, and you know why - because it is the best one, he-he, looks like I've started it. :D |
whoa......wait a sec. I really didn't want that to come across as me being pissed off. Sorry...you misread it. I was really serious about deleting it actually, I felt like an idiot for not posting a more specific question in the "redhat vs linux" forum, right after I posted my own thread. So that's why I asked for it to be deleted. I wasn't being a smart ass.
So just to clear things up. But thanks for your opinion too :). I might choose mandrake, since I already have redhat 7.3 installed. -Rosko |
No problems, we're cool, like Fonzies :Pengy:
