What distro to use for Desktop use? No serving..desktop use.

Hi. I'm really sick of Windows, and I'd like to try to use Linux as a desktop. I was wondering which distro to use, and all I want is

A.) New X-Free 86
B.) New KDE
C.) New libraries
D.) Not some bloated ass, like Mandrake, or *shudder* Redmond.

Something GOOD, but not just built to sit in a box and never be seen.

I use Slackware as desktop use. About any distro should do fine, but if you want the non bloated distro, stick with Slackware or even Debian..

I've heard Libranet is a good desktop distro. I'm getting ready to give it a shot when I upgrade my laptop hard drive.

It's based on Debian but much easier to install.

Interesting bit about the new Mandrake . . .

I was actually a bit hesitant to use it despite my woes with RedHat . . but then I read about the minimal installs.

A minimal install with X support is around 70-80 megs if I recall right. Bare minimal is I think 65MB.

Basically, if you unselect ALL groups of packages, it'll ask you what kind of minimal install you want, with/without X, etc. Other stuff you have to use RPM to put in manually.

Mind you, I haven't actually messed around with the minimal install too much. But I thought you might find it interesting.
