What about Ark Linux?

I just wanted to point your interest to a distro I've discovered recently.

Ark is aimed towards the Linux newbie. It's easy to install and configure and is built around KDE only. (That's what the road goes down to :-)
IMO, this is a very good one, which will perhaps be a better choice than SUSE someday. It sounds pretty easy, but it's very lightweight compared to SUSE. If you want to take a look, here's the link:

Don't want to rain on your parade, but I viisted the ark site and was surprised at quiet a few probelms people were having installing and running Ark.

I would be careful with a distro like this .. specific problems :
- Disk partions .. wants a full disk to mess with.
- USB mouse -- detection problems
- network card -- detection problems
- sound .. need I say more ..

seems like an immature distro.

Ark Linux is a distro which is still heavily in development. I didn't say it's that stable or something like that, I just wanted to point at it - the thing that makes it interesting for me is its philosophy. Arch aims at the Linux- (and perhaps also PC-) newbie and therefore it's optimized for this. If you were new to Computers or never played around with partitions anyhow, you would be happy if the Installation process does this for you - that is what ark does.

Ark doesn't want a full disk to mess with - you can choose either to use all Space on HD available (which will of course kill every data), or use pre-partitioned space, and there's also a third option which I can't remember actually. The only real problem is that Ark needs two primary partitions for swap and root filesystem - but this is going to be fixed, if I got the dev's right.
For the other problems - as said, it's a young one and there are things that don't work out-of-the-box. This will become better. I haven't tried Ark by myself, but will do this next week on my testing machine :-)

As said, the point's the philosophy. I like an easy-to-install-distro which isn't bloated like SUSE, for example - Linux newb's sometimes get scared by the amount of CDs this "OS" (in " " because it's not just that, but comes with a huge load of apps) has got. Ark seems to fix this for me.

If we want to bring Linux to the desktop, we'll have to accept that there will be loads of people (usually coming from Windows, I think) that don't share any philosophy or things like that because they just want to use their OS - and that is what an OS is good for.
