what 64bit distro ?
i just upgraded to AMD64 bit cpu so i need to pick a new distro
my old 32bit computer has slackware and fedora on it im looking for an OS close to slackware since slack does not have a 64bit version |
How about slamd64, it is an unofficial 64bit port of slackware.
thanks im either going to use slamd64 or gentoo or may be both
i am also thinking about trying Fedora4 but i dont understand why the install is 5 cds WTF
because it comes with allot of software?
yeah true, i only wish they had a stripped down version.
Ubuntu is more like slack. Quite like it actually...only 1 or 2 cd's. There's a kupuntu as well, which is for people who like ubuntu but want KDE. It has a 64bit version. That's probably something you'd be more interested in.
thanks, im going to try slamd64 and kubuntu
Gentoo actually complies everthing to match your processor exactly. It is a long process to Install but I think it is well worth the effort.
great, i'm going to try gentoo, kubuntu, and Slamd64. I will probably start with gentoo and Slamd64.
whats up with slamd64_disc3.iso the file is 720MB and CDs are 700MB ? it doesn't seem to burn correctly.
im using Kubuntu64 an so far so good, i just need to get firefox, java, and direct rendering to work.
kubuntu64 did a great job with the installation setup and keeping the install to only one CD thats amazing!!!!11!!1111!!!! and side note good job ATI the 64bit xorg driver is a joy to install.' |
