What's your opinion of Ubuntu-style Linux?

so i just started using Ubuntu today, and i feel like maybe it's too easy? almost like i'm cheating at linux.

what do you all think? does Ubuntu make the experience too simple to access? should we all have to go through the trenches before we can call ourselves linux users?

Its obviously easier to use than most other distros. I think that this is a good thing though. For Linux to become more popular as a desktop OS, it needs to be easier to learn. Ubuntu provides many useful tools such as synaptic. From Ubuntu, it would be much easier to move on to a more advanced distro.

With regard to your second statement, I think that a person who pops Ubuntu into their computer and installs it isn't quite the same as someone who has used a Slackware system; however, I know many people that started on Slackware and moved to Ubuntu simply because it is much more efficient in the desktop environment. Obviously a person with a background in a more advanced distro will be able to use any distro more effectively.
