What's The Best Distro You Recommend Me??

First timer here with a good question. My cousin and I are not fans of ubuntu but he suggested that I ask you guys a question because I want to use a distro for my needs:

What is the best linux distro you guys can recommend for me considering the following:

1 - It needs to be blazingly fast - it MUST boot up extemely fast.

2 - It must be able to use virtualbox.

3 - It's got to have super fast internet, like, internet manager found in ubuntu.

4 - It CANNOT be bloated.

I read that Puppy Linux and DSL (Damn Small Linux) are good distros too. However, I want to know which do you guys recommend.

You guys know my cousin here, by the way.

Give Debian a shot - you can trim it down to be very small if you want.

Try Slackware, Gentoo or LFS.

Blazingly fast with the most current software set around: Arch linux

http://archlinux.org

I can not speak for recorded facts, but I can tell you that Arch is by far the fastest distro I have ever used... and that includes Gentoo and Slackware. It also starts off with an extremely timy footprint and you simply add what you need to it. The wiki and forums are great. The IRC channel is an excellent place to find immediate help.

I've been using Linux for a little over 5 years now and have used just about every distro available. I run ArchLinux on my laptop and general desktop systems and CentOS on my server systems. While I do still like to tinker with some of the other distro's, I have found no compelling reason for not doing just that. CentOS on servers for it's stability and standard(corporate standard) compatibility. Arch on non-mission-critical systems for it's extremely up to date, rolling release cycle. With Arch, you never have to reinstall or upgrade to the latest release. By keeping up with the package manager, you are ALWAYS running the latest release.

Good Luck!

All those mention would be a good distro. Some will take more configuring on your part then others.

I would say go with Debian's Netinst, a minimum installation and add only whatever else you need.

It has one of the best package managers around, easy to configure, very secure & rock solid.
