VidaLinux Install dies
 

Hello Everybody..
I just downloaded VidaLinux Beta 2 for AthlonXP but the installation dies when anaconda is going to start. Anybody have the same problem?

I have a amd barton 2800+, 380gb hdd, 512 mb ram, geforce fx5200 with 128mb ram..

They are using an older version of anaconda compared to the Fedora Core version and it used to die on me when I tried to install Redhat 9. I sucessfully installed Vidalinux but anaconda crashes if I try and install from my CD-writer, so I have to use a different optical drive.

Ok.. But I just have a DVD Writer.. hmm.. can't I install it from the harddrive then? but then I need a boot disk?

Mine installed from a cd writer. I played around with apic first(in bios), this always seems to be a problem. I cannot remember if there was a place to pass parameters. This really is a beta still, there are quite a few rough edges. It is stable now that the setup is right for my system. It is much better than the beta 1.

Hmm.. I looked one more time.. And it's when it detecting my monitor and my graphics card the screen goes blanc and I have to restart.. could it be that the version of anaconda not support my graphics cart? a FX5200..

Yeah, or it sets modelines that are not good for your monitor. I use a kvm and mostly the installs don't detect the monitor and end up using a low res that I can change later.

Maybe it is not even getting the right module. Your card is normal nvidia and not just out in the last few months, so it seems unlikely it is not supported.

Well I have looked deaper in to this.. and it's a bug or something in the version aof anaconda thats make FX cards not work.. but it have been fixed and are going to be in the next realese (beta 3 hopes it comes soon)..
