quick way to get apache running if it isn't started on boot:
open a terminal, type: su ( and give the password to get root access) then type: apachectl start If you have it installed it will start. Point your browser to 127.0.0.1:80 and you should see the default apache install screen. To get it started on boot, run Yast and go to the runlevel editor and turn on apache there! |
thanks! give that a try when i get home.

when i go to use YaST, i get the following error:
edit, here's exactly what it says: libjawt.so not available Required by: OpenOffice_org requires libjawt.so Conflict Resolution: (x) Remove All 3 Conflicting Packages Delete OpenOffice_org-en-help Delete OpenOffice_org Delete OpenOffice_org-en ( ) Ignore Conflict and Risk System Inconsistencies OpenOffice_org 1.1-64 conflict Unresolved Requirements: OpenOffice_org requires libjawt.so Conflict Resolution: (x) Ignore Conflict and Risk System Inconsistencies |
Are you sure you are just opening YAST.
That sounds quite a bit like the errors I got going into the install software option inside YAST. It is complaining about (not) having a link to a JAVA package. |
sorry, that is what i'm doing. forgot to mention that.

do i just need to install java from sun.com?

A apt install would help u install programs more easy how ever yast should be able to do it.I never did a ftp install so i cant tell whats different but my guess is you need some packages installed i got lots of help from these pages http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ http://www.usr-local-bin.org/apt.php http://packman.links2linux.de/ and it will take some time to get to know yast .Once you do you will love it ,well i do becourse i'm far from guru state :D anyway i hope this info will help you on your way .If not at least fix that broken dependency .Suse's online support pages could help you as well visit those to on trouble .
