Question Upgrading to KDE 3.1.3

First off, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this. I had no other ideas.

That said, I'm having trouble installing KDE 3.1.3 on RH9. I dled the Konstruct program and ran make install on /meta/everything. Problem is, I'm not sure if it worked. How can I tell what KDE version I'm on? And, is it possible to have a partial upgrade (i.e., only the graphics are upgraded (terrible example))? I guess this thread should probably go in Newbie, as it probably has a simple answer.. Anyway, if you can help, please do. And to mods, if you have to move this, sorry for wasting your time..

Never have I seen such a large amount of disclaimers in a post on LQ

Its definitely possible to have a partial upgrade of KDE. When 3.1.3 came out recently, I began to upgrade to it, but stopped in the middle because I didn't want to mess things up. At that point, things were looking very weird, buttons missing, scrollbars not displaying etc.

What distro are you using? If it uses RPMs see if you can a find a list of all the KDE packages you have installed on your system and try to upgrade all of them. Thats what I would I do

Heh.. sorry you had to wade through all that.. I'm a little insecure ..

As to my distro, I'm on RH9, as I said. Checking the RPMs occurred to me, but I don't know what to look for or even how to look.

Thanks,

When you install a package in RedHat, what program do you use? I know for SuSE I use YaST, which is the setup tool for that distro. Does RH have a main program like that or do you just use kpackage or what?

If you are using a graphical based program to install packages, there should be a list of packages installed... just take a look at that while you are downloading packages. Just go down the list, hopefully you can find 3.1.3 versions of most of the k programs/libraries. Some may not have the same version number (3.1.3) on the site you are getting them from, so just check the date they were uploaded.

Hope this works out for you
