Ubuntu
Running Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (Focal Fossa) Desktop
Over the past week I've tried using the the media share server, with some luck and not so much luck, some times it will contect and other times it doesn't, using a wireless conntection from my Desktop to my router, and I've tried lan still have the same issues
I've add 4 extra HDD's 1 2TB, 2 1TB and 1 500G for main system,
I've mounted the drives using disk
but every night I sit down to watch a show and I have to muck about to load the drives so they show up on the left panel as icons, then the sharing some times works
just wondering would I have to mount drives so they show up on the left hand panel all the time ?
I had serviio running in the past, but I had to rebuild due to PC melt down
but this time can't seem to get serviio up and running as a GUI on the desktop PC
Code:
sudo /opt/serviio/bin/serviio-console.sh
I can only have it running via http://ip_address:23423/console that works.
Any ideas pls

No idea how well it works but from what information I can find the media sharing setting is actually using the Gnome rygel DLNA media server. I would assume if the drives are not mounted prior to the server starting they are not going to be available are if those settings are preserved.

https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubunt...-media.html.en
I don't know if you have to manually allow DLNA traffic through the firewall or if it is automatically configured.
What device / client are you using to playback the video?

According to your screenshots and shared code you are running everything with superuser privileges?
This is not a good idea, you're even being told so in the terminal. You did read that, yes?
In short: Don't use sudo if it isn't required.
Can be tricky sometimes to find out when it is required, but you should always default to not requiring it.
