trying to install softmodem in knoppix, cannot make install

I have a winmodem wich has proven to work with smartlink softmodem driver slmodem, when i try to install it It does the make process right, the problem comes when doing make install, it has to create a dir named misc in the kernel directory (/lib/modules/<kerne-version>/build) it says that the dir cannot be created cuz, such dirs are read only... so how can I overcome this...

I already looked for such answer in google and knoppix faq, no luck!!

have you tried running "make install" as root?

Yup alraedy did... that's the problem.. when I run make install.. it can't do it... shows a problem about writing permissions in the kernel directory, even though I am logged as root...
